4 traders killed, 4 injured as truck hits tempo in Jhenidah

Jhenidah – Four betel leaf traders were killed on the spot, four others sustained injuries, three of them critically, when a betel leaf laden tempo was hit head on by a truck on Jhenidah-Kushtia highway under Shoilkupa upazila in Jhenidah on Friday morning. All of the boarders were betel leaf traders.The deceased were identified as Sagir Uddin, 35, son of Abdul Gafur Biswas, Mazibar Rahman, 37, son of Rawshan Ali, Reazul Islam, 40, son af Abdur Razaque all of Kanapukuria village and Amirul Islam Amal, 35, son of Yusuf Ali of Charpara village under Mirzapur union porishod in Shoilkupa upazila in Jhenidah.
The injured were rushed to Jhenidah sadar hospital. Of the injured, condition of Milon, Alamgir, Nurul Islam was stated to be critical and reffered to Faridpur medical collage hospital. Only injured Momin Jowardar’s physical condition is good, Jhenidah sadar hospital sources said.
Shoilkupa fire service and civil defense office station officer Abdur Rauf Mollah said, a betel leaf laden tempo was heading for Jhenidah. At about 6.30 AM, when the tempo arrived near the Abashan Prokalpa area, a truck from the opposite direction crushed the tempo leaving four persons dead on the spot. Fire fighters from Shoilkupa and Jhenidah rescued the injured and sent them to Jhenidah sadar hospital, said the fire service sources.
Shoilkupa police officer in charge (OC) MA Hashem Khan when contacted, confirmed the accident and said, the driver and the helper of the killer truck had managed to flee immediate after the fatal incident.
The police have been trying to nab them. The bodies were sent to Jhenidah sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination. No case was filed with the police till filling of this report in the morning, the police said.
