4-year-old boy with aging symptoms admitted to Dhaka hospital

Md Bayezid Shikder, a 4-year-old boy with wrinkled skin and other signs of aged person, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Saturday for treatment.Bayezid, hailing from Mohammadpur uapzila of Magura district, was diagnosed with Progeria at Magura Sadar Hospital and his parents brought him to Dhaka as per doctors’ advice.
Bayezid’s father, Md Lablu Shikder, a mason, admitted him to the burn unit of the DMCH in the morning.
Tripti Khatun, mother of the boy, said her son was born four years back with a look of an aged man. They took him to different doctors, but there has been no improvement in his condition, she said.
Dr Shamonto Lal Sen, coordinator of burn and plastic surgery unit of the hospital, said a medical board will be formed on Sunday to take decision about the boy’s treatment.
Progeria is an extremely rare genetic disorder in which symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at a very early age.
