5 JMB men to walk gallows for killing Jhalakati PP

A court here on Wednesday sentenced five members of the banned Islamist outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to death in a case filed for killing a public prosecutor eight years ago.Among the condemned convicts, Aminul Islam alias Amir Hossain, M Mehdi Hasan and Murad Hosain, hailing from Rajshahi, Khulna and Barguna districts respectively, were in the deck when the verdict was delivered.Two other convicts—Bellal Hossain and Sagir Hossain—were tried in absentia.According to the prosecution, miscreants shot Haider Hossain, public prosecutor of additional sessions judge court, to death on his way back home from a mosque near his house at Gorasthan road in the town on the night of April 11, 2007.Later, the victim’s son, Tareqe Ibn Haider, filed a case against some unidentified people with Sadar Police Station on the same day.Inspector M Momunul of Criminal Investigation of Department (CID), also investigating officer (IO) of the case, submitted a chargesheet against the five JMB men in connection with the murder.After examining 56 witnesses and documents, judge of Jhalakati additional sessions judge court M Abdul Halim handed down the verdict.On May 23, 2006, a court here sentenced six top JMB leaders to death for killing two judges of Jhalakati court by a suicide bomb attack on November 14, 2005. -UNB, Jhalakati
