6 killed 10 injured in train cargo van collision at Kamalapur station

At least six persons were killed and ten others injured seriously in a collision between a Dhaka bound passenger train from Narayanganj and a container truck inside the Kamalapur Railway station on early Monday afternoon.
The accident occured when a container truck of NS Cargo services came out of the Kamalapur Inland Container Depot and a passenger train coming from Narayanganj collided head-on leaving two persons dead on the spot. Four others died later at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, sources said.The driver’s cabinet of the truck was badly damaged and the container on it was twisted while one side of the train’s boggy was badly broken and it leaned on one side under impact of the collision.
Rail Minister Mujibur Huq visited the accident spot soon after and announced the constitution of a 3-member committee of inquiry to find the reasons behind the mishap. He termed the accident unfortunate.
He told a questioner that the matter of there being no signal when the cargo van came out of the ICD was being investigated into.
Those injured in the accident have been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. – Staff Reporter
