The Coast Guard personnel in a drive seized 5,000-kg of jatka (small hilsa) from a passenger launch in Dhaleswari river near Munshiganj Launch Ghat early this morning.
Lieutenant Commander Saeed M. Kasad of Coast Guard said on information a team of Coast Guard conducted the drive in “MV Mahin Rifat”, a Dhaka bound passenger launch from Bhola, and found 5,000-kg of banned jatka in 50-drum.
Later, the seized jatka were distributed among the poor and the madrasas of Munshiganj town, the Coast Guard sources said.
