The government has decided to import 5,000 tonnes of onion to stabilise the market.The price of the vegetable soared twice as much in the last one week and is selling at Tk 70 to 75 a kg in the markets in Dhaka.
The onions will be imported through its trading arm, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The fresh supplies will reach the market in the next week, TCB’s PRO Humayun Kabir said.
