Some 525 dwellers of 21 chars of Kurigram and Gaibandha districts got free different varieties of vegetable seed to make homestead gardening from a national NGO Friendship last few days.The objective of the seed distribution was to motivate the char dwellers to sow it on their homestead and its surrounding areas to prepare garden so that they could fulfill the demand of vegetable producing on it to build sound health, office sources said. To help the growers earn economical benefit from the gardens in a bid to help them be self reliant economically by selling vegetable in local markets after fulfilling their family demand was another objective of the homestead gardening, sources said. The seed of Lalshak, Palangshak, Misti-kumra, Shasha and Data were distributed to the selected char inmates under the Good Governance Project of the organization funded by Erishjalpen Foundation, Sweden, said project officer Nazmul Hossain. Earlier, the beneficiaries were provided need base training by the agriculture experts on homestead gardening to make the activity a total success, he also said. Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Mir Abdur Razzak advised the trainees to sow the seed of the vegetable on their respective homestead as per suggestions of the trainers to get good return from the produces. -BSS, Gaibandha
