Four members of the same family were murdered in Kurigram’s Bhurungamari Upazila on Wednesday.
Bhurungamari Police Station OC AHM Mahfuzur Rahman said that the gruesome killings at the Diyadnga village happened early Wednesday.
Sultan Mia, 55, his wife ‘Hazera’, 46 and their grandchildren, ‘Romana’, 14 and ‘Anika’, 7 were hacked to death.
Another of their grandchild, ‘Mousumi’, was severely injured in the attack and has been admitted to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
OC Rahman said they had rushed to the spot and started investigations, but were yet to arrest anyone.
Two persons in Chittagong died in a ‘gunbattle’ early Wednesday.
Police claim these two were involved in the murder of a policeman on Monday.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (West) SM Tanvir Arafat said the shooting erupted in the Halishahar’s Toll Road at dawn.
He claimed those killed were as ‘Rajib’ and ‘Nasir’, both criminals and involved with the murder of a policeman.
Naik Faridul Islam, 45, of the Damparha Police Lines was hacked to death by miscreants on Monday at the city’s Agrabad area.
ADC Arafat said police conducted a raid in the area on Wednesday to nab the suspects of the murder.
“The criminals fired on the raiding party and police fired back. Two bullet-ridden bodies were recovered from the area later,” he said.
Halishahar Police Station OC Shahjahan Kabir said that they have recovered a gun and a machete from the spot.
