6 more held for illegal sand lifting from Meghna

Bangladesh Coast Guard members seized a dredger and arrested six people on charge of lifting sand illegally from the Meghna River at Nunertek under Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj on Monday.
Sources at the Coast Guard headquarters said a team of coastguards stationed in Pagla conducted a drive in the area at about 3:30 pm.The law enforcers seized dredger “MB Hazi Salma” while it was lifting sand illegally from the river.
They also arrested six people –– Omar Faruq, 32, Md Khokon, 50, Md Parvez, 25, Md Yunus Mia, 26, Md Masud, 26, and Md Akkas Mollah — for their involvement in illegal sand extraction.
The arrested were handed over to Sonargaon police station for legal action.
Earlier on Sunday, the coastguards seized a dredger and two bulkheads and arrested nine people on the same charge from the Meghna River at Char Kishoreganj under the same upazila.
