Dhak – The results of this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations were published on Sunday, showing a pass percentage of 68.91 which is 5.79 percent lower than that of last year.Of these, 66.84 percent passed the HSC examinations while 77.02 percent came out successful in Madrassah Board and 81.33 percent in Technical Board examinations.A total of 801,711 examinees came out successful in the examinations in all the 10 education boards of the country. Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with the chairmen of all the education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban at 10:17am.Nahid announced the results at a press briefing at the Secretariat formally around 1:00pm.This year a total of 37,969 students secured the highest grade GPA 5 while the number of GPA-5 achievers was 58,276 last year.Among the successful students, 33,242 achieved the highest grade GPA 5 under eight general education boards while 1,815 under the Madrassah Education Board and 2669 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.The number of educational institutions with cent percent pass rate declined to 532 from last year’s 848 while that of institutions with zero success rate increased to 72 from last year’s 25.Some 6,44,942 students under eight general education boards came out successful with 66.84 percent pass rate while 74,561 students under the Madrassah Board passed the examination with 77.02 percent pass rate and 78,904 students passed under the Vocational Board with 81.33 percent pass rate.Besides, 244 students, out of 259, who appeared at the HSC exam from eight overseas centres, came out successful.Meanwhile, the pass rate in eight general Education Boards is: Dhaka Boad-69.74 percent, Rajshahi Board -71.30 percent, Comilla Board-49.52 percent, Jessore Board -70.02 percent, Chittagong Board-61.09 percent, Barisal Board-70.28 percent and Dinajpur Board-65.44 percent.Replying to a question about the low pass rate, the minister said this year a system was adopted to evaluate the answer scripts.This year, a total of 11.83 lakh candidates appeared at the examinations that began on April 2. The written tests ended on May 15 while practical tests on May 25.UNB news agency
