69th anniversary of DU Alumni Association celebrated

The 69th founding anniversary of Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) was observed yesterday on the campus with much festivity and enthusiasm.

On the occasion, six emeritus Professors of the University and DUAA

founding president were conferred DUAA Gold Medal-2017 at a function held at Alumni Floor of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith inaugurated the function as the chief guest with DUAA President AK Azad Chowdhory in the chair.

DU Vice-Chancellor and DUAA Chief Patron Md Akhtaruzzaman attended the programme as the special guest.

The gold medal recipients are- emeritus professors Dr Sultana Sarwat Ara Zaman of Institute of Education and Research, Dr Abdul Matin of Philosophy department, Dr Serajul Islam Chowdhury of English department, Dr Anisuzzaman of Bangla department, Dr Nazma Chowdhury of women and gender studies and Dr Abul Kalam Azad Chowdhury and DUAA founding president former Justice Md Ibrahim (posthumous).

Addressing the function, AMA Muhith said the alumni of any university play vital role in development of their respective universities across the world.

They can contribute in different branches of the knowledge alongside infrastructural development of the university, the minister said, adding that the DUAA Gold Medal-2017 is such kind of recognition.

“I hope it will continue in the future,” he added.

The DUAA was established on September 24, 1949, reports BSS.
