7 return thru’ Benapole after jail term in India

Dhaka  – Seven Bangladeshi people returned home through Benapole check post in Benapole on Friday night after serving one and a half year’s jail term in an Indian prison.Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed them over to Border Guard Bangladesh through Benapole check post at night.All of them hail from different parts of Barisal and Gopalganj districts.Officer-in-charge of Benapole Check Post Immigration Iqbal Hossain said the seven people, including five women and one child, had gone to India illegally in search of jobs one and a half years back.Indian police arrested them from Kolkata city of West Bangle. Afterwards, they were sentenced to one and a half years’ jail by a court.Upon completion of the jail term, they were kept in Rescue Foundation Shelter Home in Kolkata.The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests of the Home Ministry of Bangladesh through letters several times.Sub-inspector of Benapole Port Police Station Firoz Uddin said they handed the returnees over to their respective families through Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association.
