Police have arrested eight persons posing as fake detective policemen from Dhaka’s Badda.
They were arrested from Aftabnagar area around 11.30pm on Sunday, Detective Branch (DB) of police Deputy Commissioner (DC-South) Krishnapada Roy told a news conference on Monday.Walkie talkies, handcuffs, 20 handmade bombs and firearms were also seized from them.
Those arrested are Tajul Mridha, Md Jamal Uddin, Md Shipan, Md Yakub, Md Mamun Khalifa, Md Rubel, Md Shishul Sarder and Rafiqullah Sahed.
Roy said the racket posing as DB police had been committing crimes including abduction and robbery.
Members of ‘Anti-kidnapping Squad’ nabbed the criminals with a microbus when they were planning for a dacoity in Aftabnagar, he said.
Others fled the scene in another microbus.
During interrogation those arrested admitted to committing crimes in many parts of the country including Dhaka, the police official said.
