8 killed in trawler capsize in the Buriganga near Dhaka

The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Buriganga River at Aliganj Ghat in South Keraniganj rose to eight with the recovery of five more bodies on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as M Samir, 45, son of Lat Miah, Kajal Miah, 28, Karamjan Bibi, 65, wife of Ayub Ali, Rajib Miah Hridoy, 22, Rubel, 18, son of Ohab Matabbar, Sagar, 10, son of Md Nizam, and Rubel, 30, son of Hafez Miah of Lalbagh area in the capital, and Zakir Hossain, 30, son of Nur Uddin of Mirpur area in the capital.Sources at Fire Service Control Room and police said the trawler coming from Beltali of Chandpur sank in the river after being hit by a sand-laden trawler around 11:45 am.
On information, police, fire fighters and divers rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of seven people till 6:45 pm today.
Besides, Samir, who was rescued by the divers, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 1pm.
Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore or were rescued while several others went missing.
Dhaka district administration provided Tk 20,000 for the family members of each of the deceased for their burial. – UNB
