8,000MW electricity added under AL regime: Tofail

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Friday said the country achieved the capacity of producing 11,000 MW of electricity during the Awami League government.
“Country’s power general capacity reached 11,000 MW during the Awami League from only 3,000 MW,” he said while inaugurating an additional 24MW power unit at Bhola gas-fired 34.5MW power plant at Kheaghat.
Tofail also said Bhola will be the most developing district in the country in the coming days if the potential for its industrialisation can be capitalised to the full extent. He noted that the problem of river erosion in the district will be resolved very soon, and that the unemployment problem can also be mitigated through industrialisation.
“There’s a huge storage of natural gas in Bhola and industries can be established based on this resource,” he added.
Tofail Ahmed said the day is not far away when one will be able to reach other districts from Bhola without requiring any ferry haulage through roadways.
He said the government has already allocated money to prevent river erosion in the district.
The programme was also addressed by Power Division Secretary Monowar Hossain, Zilla Parishad administrator Abdul Momin Tulu, deputy commissioner M Selim Reza and Venture Energy Resources chairman Anisur Rahman Sinha. – UNB
