Northwesterly ‘Kalbaishakhi’ squalls, hailstorm forecast

Dhaka – River ports in several districts across the country have been asked to hoist ‘riverine warning signal no. 2’ amid forecast of temporary west or north-westerly squalls.

West or north-westerly squalls may blow at places in Rangpur, Dinajpur, Pabna, Bogra, Rajshahi, Tangail, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Comilla regions with the windspeed of 60-80 km per hours and above, and the river ports there should hoist ‘riverine warning signal no. 2’, said a warning from the Meteorological Department.
River ports in rest of the country have been asked to hoist ‘cautionary signal no 1’.
Md Giasuddin, assistant meteorologist of the department, told UNB that the warning would be valid till 6pm today (Monday).
The Met Department has also issued a ‘Kalbaishakhi Warning’ at places in Rangpur, Pabna, Bogra, Tangail, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Dhaka, Jessore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barisal, Noakhali, Comilla and Sylhet.
Rain or thunder showers accompanies by temporary west or nor’westerly squalls with the speed of 60-80 km per hour or above with hails at places may blow through these regions during the 24 hours ending a 6pm on Monday, said the warning. – NewsDesk
