Dhaka – Foreign politicians from 11 countries who attended the 20th National Council of the Awami League (AL) on Saturday praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her dynamic leadership terming her a ‘rare’ leader of the sub-continent.
Terming Awami League a ‘largest party’, they also appreciated Bangladesh’s initiatives to fight against terrorism including tremendous development of the country and reduction of poverty and other sectors under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.At least 55 political leaders from China, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Russia, Australia, the UK, Bhutan, and Italy joined the triennial council started on Saturday at the historic Suhrawardhy Udyan in Dhaka with Hasina in chair.
Among others, former prime minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli, vice-president of Indian ruling party BJP Vinay Prabhakar, MP, National Congress Party leader and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad, Italian ruling party MP Khalid Chaouki, West Bengal education minister and All India Trinamool leader Partha Chaterjee, All India Forward Bloc leader Debabrata Biswas, China Communist Party leader Zheng Xiaosong and Russian ruling party lawmaker Sergey Zheleznyak also spoke at AL’s 20th council at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka as guest speakers.
Vinay Prabhakar termed Bangladesh Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina as a rare leader of the entire subcontinent.
“I am impressed and more than convinced that you are a true Janonetri ” (leader of the people) not only in your country but also in the entire sub-continent,” he added.
He further said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been giving highest importance of cordial and harmonious relationship between India and all of its neighbouring countries particularly Bangladesh.
Several unsettled issues like Land Boundary Agreement has been resolved and now India is working on the other existing unresolved issues under the leadership of Narendra Modi, he said.
He hoped that India and Bangladesh relationship will be strengthened more in future after respectfully resolving the issues.
“We look forward to your (Hasina) role as one of the tallest leaders in the fight against terrorism and to save this sub-continent from its menace,” Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is also a leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha in India, said.
He also congratulated Hasina for her fight against terrorism and said all parties in India appreciated her stand. – Staff Reporter
