A four-tier security network will act to thwart any violence relating
to the election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) scheduled to be
held on Saturday.
Subhash Chandra Sarker, Returning Officer of RCC election, told BSS
that the law enforcing agencies would build the network to avert
either any pre-election or post election violence.
He said step has been adopted in apprehension of violence in the wake
of vice-versa allegations centering the ongoing hectic election
campaign by the two heavyweight mayoral candidates-AHM Khairuzzaman
Liton (Lock) and Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul (Pineapple).
In Saturday’s election, the administration has detected 104 out of 137
centers as either important or vulnerable. The administration thinks
violence may take place in the centers.
Besides, some other centers might be important any time, said the
election officials and others concerned. Violence may take place
following the campaign and post-election results.
Subhash Sarker says special security measures will be taken in all the
important centers.
“Law-enforcers have taken highest security measures after taking the
important centers under special consideration,” SM Munir-Uz-Zaman,
Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said.
He said besides the armed Ansar forces and regular forces will be
deployed every center. Separate mobile teams comprising RAB and Police
will act in the important centers.
There will be also striking reserve force comprising police, RAB and
BGB. Apart from this, mobile court will act as standby. Law enforcers
will tackle any untoward incident instantly if there any happen in any
election center.
“We will not tolerate any misdeed for holding the election free, fair
and acceptable to all,” said the RMP chief.
He says RMP has imposed restriction on plying of motor vehicles for
successful and peaceful holding of the election.
The restriction has been imposed on plying of baby taxi, taxi, cab,
micro-bus, jeep, pickup, car, bus, truck and tempo in the city area
from 12 midnight of June 14 to 12 midnight of June 15.
Besides, plying of all sorts of motorbikes will be restricted from 12
midnight of June 12 to 12 midnight of June 15.
