Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund launched at DU

A new trust fund titled “Justice Sikandar Ali Memorial Trust Fund” was set up at Law Department of Dhaka University (DU) here.

Former Resident Representative of UNDP Sarwar Sultana, also daughter of late Justice Sikandar Ali, today handed over a cheque for Taka 14 lakh to DU Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin at a function at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on the campus to launch the fund, a DU press release said.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Dean of the Law faculty Professor Dr Taslima Monsoor, Chairman of the of the Law Department Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, former Chairperson of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Akhtar Sultana and Acting Registrar of the university Md Enamuzzaman were present at the function, among others.

The interest of the fund’s capital would be distributed among some meritorious students of DU Law Department as the “Justice Sikandar Ali Trust Fund” scholarship every year, the release said.

Addressing the function, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Arefin Siddique thanked the donour for coming up with collaborative hands to reinforce the meritorious students for acquiring knowledge.

He also paid due respect to the memory of late Justice Sikandar Ali and hoped that the students of the department would be highly benefited from this fund.

Late Justice Sikandar Ali was born on January 1 in 1907 at Barlekha under greater Sylhet division and died on December 31 in 1966, it said, reports BSS.
