Director Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s debut film Live from Dhaka has bagged two awards at the recently concluded Singapore International Film Festival.
Saad won the Best Director award while the film’s protagonist, Mostafa Monwar, won the Best Performance award.
Another film, a documentary titled ‘Tasmina: The Horse Girl,’ directed by Faridur Rahman, has been selected for screening at the competitive section of the prestigious Olympia Film Festival for Children and Young People at Pyrgos, Greece. The 18-minute film, featuring the story of a horse rider from the northern district of Naogaon, shows the struggles of girls in a male-dominated society.
The film has earlier won the best documentary award at the Women’s International Entertainment Film Festival. It has been screened at a number of festivals so far.
Live from Dhaka, on the other hand, is an intense story of a partially-disabled man who, after losing money after the share market collapse, tries to leave the country.
The black-and-white film shows how the incident left him broke and devastated.
