Court allows Shafik Rehman bail until charge-sheet

Dhaka – A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to journalist Shafik Rehman in a case filed for his alleged attempt to kidnap and kill Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wajeed Joy, who is also her Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Adviser.
Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka granted the bail after Shafik surrendered to his court yesterday morning.The court granted him bail, until police submit the charge sheet of the case to the court.
Earlier, on December 8, the Supreme Court directed the concerned subordinate court to consider the bail plea of the veteran journalist and asked him to surrender to the subordinate court within seven days. The court also fixed January 12 for submission of the probe report in the case.
Shafik Rehman was picked up from his Eskaton residence in the capital on April 16.
Detectives posing as television reporters arrested him from house. He came out of the Kashimpur jail on September 6, five months after his arrest in the case. – Special Correspondent
