Dhaka – New Zealand sealed the three-match ODI series victory by 2-0 margin against Bangladesh beating the touring side by 67 runs in the 2nd ODI at Saxton Oval in Nelson on Thursday.
Bangladesh conceded a 77-run defeat in the 1st game at Christchurch on Monday last.Bangladesh will play the 3rd ODI against the hosts on December 31 in their bid to secure a much expected win in any away game in this format against New Zealand.
This is Bangladesh’s 19th defeat against the Black Caps in their 27th ODI meet since 1990, while Bangladesh’s all eight wins came on home soil.
In the day’s match, chasing a target of 252 runs, Bangladesh finished at 184 for all in 42.4 overs, including Imrul Kayes’s half century of 58 runs.
Kayes faced 89 balls to fire six boundaries and was caught by Neil Broom off Tim Southee’s bowling leaving team total at 136/6 in 31.3 overs.
In the 2nd wicket stand Kayes paired with Sabbir Rahman for a partnership of 75 runs in 15.4 overs that carried the team total to 105/2 in 23 overs from 30/1 in 7.2 overs, before Sabbir was run out for 38 off 49 balls, including two boundaries and three over boundaries.
Debutant Nurul Hasan scored 24 off 31 balls, including one boundary and one over boundary while skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza added 17 runs.
Bangladesh faced 1st jolt in the 8th over, losing opener Tamim Iqbal (16) who was caught by Tom Latham off Tim Southee’s bowling, when the team collection was at 30 runs.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson grabbed three wickets for 22 runs in five overs. Trent Boult and Southee took two wickets each for 26 and 33 runs in 8.4 and 9 overs. Delivering eight overs each, Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson took one wicket apiece for 20 and 53 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh restricted hosts New Zealand at 251 for all in 50 overs.
Number-4 batsman Neil Broom hammered unbeaten century of 109 runs off 107 balls, including eight boundaries and three over boundaries.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi (35), James Neesham (28) Tom Latham (22) and skipper Kane Williamson (14) and Trent Boult (12) were the other batsmen who scored double figures.
Choosing to field after winning the toss, Mashrafe started his show from the beginning of the innings for his three-for, sending opener Martin Guptill back with duck in the 4th ball of the very 1st over of the innings when the team’s collection was also zero.
Later, the Tigers skipper bowled out Colin Munro at 107/5 in 25.3 overs and finally dismissed Lockie Ferguson, was caught by debutant Nurul Hasan, at 228/9 in 46.5 overs. The Tigers’ skipper conceded 49 runs in 10 overs.
Delivering 10 overs and conceding 45 runs each, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and pacer Taskin Ahmed captured two wickets apiece.
Promising spinner Mosaddek Hossain and debutant pace bowler Subashis Roy took one wicket each for 12 and 45 runs in two and 10 overs.
The Tigers skipper experimented his side strength well, making three changes in the playing eleven that played in the first ODI at Christchurch where the Kiwis won by 77-run to take 1-0 series lead.
Nurul Hasan made his ODI debut replacing injured wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim who was retired hurt from the 1st match, after scoring 42 runs, suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him from the squad for the first time in more than six years.
Mashrafe sent deceitful left-handed cutter master Mustafizur Rahman to rest and dropped Soumya Sarkar, replacing them by debuts pacer Subashis Roy and legspinner Tanbir Hayder respectively. – UNB
