Dhaka – Two suspected militants, including alleged ‘mastermind’ of Gulshan terror attack Nurul Islam Fahad alias Marzan, were killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with members of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) in the city’s Mohammadpur area early Friday.
Additional Commissioner and chief of the CTTC unit Monirul Islam said Marzan and his associate Saddam were killed in a gunfight with CTTC unit team in Beribadh area early in the morning.
The bodies were kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue, said police.
According to the CTTC unit chief, Marzan is one of the suspected masterminds of the recent militant attacks in the country and his name surfaced during the investigation into the Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery attack.
According to a text message of the CTTC unit chief Monirul, Saddam was the chargesheeted accused in the killing case of Japanese citizen Hoshi Kunio, attempt to murder case of Bahai community leader in Rangpur, Debiganj Hindu priest Jogeshwar Roy murder case and other criminal cases.
Marzan, hailing from Afuri village under Hemayetpur union of Sadar upazila in Pabna, was a 2nd year student of Arabic Department of the Chittagong University under academic session of 2012-13. He was known as Fahad on the campus.
He, however, did not appear at the year final examination and remained missing since 2015. – UNB
