Dhaka – The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Tuesday adjourned the cross-examination on behalf of the then Sub-Inspector of Pallabi Police Station, Zahidur Rahman Zahid in the Mahbubur Rahman Sujan murder case until January 31.Earlier, Advocate Faruk Ahmed cross-examined victim Sujan’s younger brother Imtiaz Hassan Rocky, on behalf of accused Zahid. Rocky is the complainant of the case, filed in connection with murder of Sujan. Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court recorded the partial cross-examination of Rocky and fixed the next date for further cross-examination.
Other four accused persons are- ASI Quamruzzaman alias Mintu, ASI Rashedul Islam, Police sources Sumon and Russel. Of them Zahid and Sumon are in the jail, while Mintu and Russel are on bail from the court. Other accused- police source Russel is on the run.
The prosecution story says- waste jute trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan, his brother Rocky and three others were detained by police on February 9, 2014, when they were conducting a pre-wedding programme of Sujan’s friend at Irani camp of Pallabi area in the city. Later, Sujon was allegedly tortured and rushed to a private hospital, where his condition was deteriorated and he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. There, the physicians declared him dead.
A metropolitan magistrate conducted a judicial inquiry and found Zahid and four others’ involvement in the incident. Zahid was made accused of being involved in the custodial death of garment-waste trader Sujan of Mirpur. – Special Correspondent
