Indira Gandhi Culture Centre oraganised ‘An Evening of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music’ by eminent classical vocalist of Bangladesh Anil Kumar Saha, at Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka on February 11.
Anil Kumar Saha made a soulful presentation of the following Ragas – Puria Dhanesree, Madhu banti, Miaki malhan, Koushik Dhoni, Kalaboti, Bashant, Desh and Raga Ahir Bhairav. He sang some of the Ragas in Bengali which was highly appreciated by the audience.
The artiste was accompanied by Imtiaz sultan on Tabla, Abdus Sakur on Harmonium, Rocky on Tanpura and Motiar Rahman on Sarangi.
Anil Kumar Saha learnt Hindustani classical music in India under Ustad A Daud Khan, one of the greatest vocalists of Kirana Gharana.
Saha performs Hindustani Classical Music in a simple and effortless style. Presentation of conspicuous Akar-Sargam Taan, diversity of rhythm amid taan and soulful yet very sweet pukar are the hallmarks of his singing. He has performed in numerous stage shows in Bangladesh and abroad and has also won many awards, including the “Citycell Channel i Music Award” for best classical vocalist in 2004 and 2008; Certificate of Honour (2009) from Shakhari Begum Memorial Trust, Kolkata, India.
Saha has been enlisted as a classical vocalist of special grade by both BTV and Bangladesh Betar since 1990. He is appointed as a Judge and music examiner in different music competitions and government education board. He has so far released three CDs on classical music named, Joaree, Illusion and Chandra Chokor.
Saha is presently a lecturer of classical music at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology. He has also taught classical music at Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA) and several other institutions.
