Mymensingh artiste perform in Dhaka

The solo performance of Nishat Afza Arzoo, a versatile artiste was held at Sangeet and Nrittyakala Kendra of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka recently.

A special grade artiste for Nazrul, Tagore and modern songs of Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, Nishat hails from Mymensingh town.

The artiste rendered some 11 songs including Nazrul, Tagore scores and songs of old melodies, making the huge audience spell-bound.

Bangladesh Sangakritik Parishad (BSP) organised the programme marking ‘Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day’.

Born in Mymensingh town in 1969, Nishat took her lessons on classical music and Nazrul and Tagore songs under the guidance of ustads-Mithun Dey, Omar Faruq, Gopal Dutta in Mymensingh and from Sohrab Hossain, Sudhin Das, Khalid Hossain, Sanjida Khatun, Wahidul Haque, Professor Dr ABM Nurul Anwar and Sadi Mohammad in Dhaka, said the artiste.

Earlier, a discussion meeting was held. Chairman of Asian Television Md Harun-or-Rashid; additional secretary of Ministry of Finance, Pirjada Shahidul Harun; BSP vice-president, Noor Mohammad; Dr Md Amirul Islam; principal Mohammad Ali Chowdhury Manik and cultural personality Abul Hossain Majumder addressed the discussion with Shamim Rumi Titon in the chair. BSP secretary Ali Ashraf Akanda delivered the welcome speech.

The parishad also honoured the artiste with “Bhasha Sainik Abdul Matin Smriti Padok” for her contribution in the field of Bengali Music, sources said
