Awami joint secretary general Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Sunday said his party will not give the opposition any fresh proposal for dialogue on polls-time administration. “There’s no reason to give the opposition BNP any proposal for dialogue,” he said.
Hanif came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after paying homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital marking the 64th founding anniversary of Awami league.
He said his party does not think there is any necessity of any other form of administration to oversee the next general election. “We’re on the right track. We’re on the path of constitution.”
Mentioning that the government has a strong resolve to establish people’s voting right, the Awami League leader said, they have earlier said the opposition can give any proposal if it has any confusion over the polls-time administration. “Why should we come up with any offer in advance if the opposition doesn’t give any proposal in this regard?”
Hanif was critical of BNP for withdrawing its adjournment motion on restoration of the non-party caretaker government (CG) system in parliament. “BNP has proved that they believe in the politics of conspiracy by withdrawing its adjournment motion.”
The ruling party leader said the caretaker government system will not be restored in the constitution further as the recently-held elections to the four city corporations have proved that unconstitutional government system like caretaker one has no need to hold a free and fair election.
When his attention was drawn to BNP’s allegation of making disappeared Gazipur city polls AL rebel candidate Jahangir Alam by the ruling party men, Hainf said, “Jahangir is sick and undergoing treatment at the city’s Apollo Hospital.”
Earlier on Saturday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Jahangir’s family members cannot trace him. “Has Jahangir been made disappeared like Ilias Ali? We want to ask the government to trace him out.”
Reacting to Fakhrul’s remark, the AL leader said the opposition is spreading lies over the issue.
