Dhaka – Ruling Awami League presidium member and Health Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday categorically said that there was no need to forge a national consensus to combat against militancy and terrorism that gripped the nation nowadays.“Yes, militancy has now become a national crisis but the way our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working and taking measures to suppress militant activities, there is no need to call for such consensus to do so,” Nasim said this while replying to a question at a post meeting briefing at the Dhanmondi party office.
Earlier, party general secretary Obaidul Quader had also urged all irrespective of political ideologies to be united to fight the menace (militancy and terrorism). “If the country is not run properly and unrest and sabotage continue, then none will remain safe and it’s a challenge for the nation,” he had said.
Nasim, also the coordinator of AL-led 14-party alliance, criticized harshly the statements of BNP leaders over the issue of militancy and said they (BNP leaders) are instigating militants and other such elements by their indiscriminate statements over the issue which is very unfortunate.
He also extended thanks to the members of law enforcement agencies for suppressing militant and terrorist activities efficiently. The minister said the 14-party will carry out mass contact programmes across the country soon in a bid to build up awareness among the country’s people against the militancy.
About the prime minister’s upcoming visit to India, AL presidium member expressed his firm optimism that the visit will be successful and existing unresolved issues between two countries will be resolved through her visit.
We believe the Indian government will extend its cooperation to the Bangladesh government and the existing good relation with India will remain intact,” he said.
Meanwhile, the AL-led 14-party announced two-day long programmes on the occasion of celebrating the March 25 as the ‘Genocide Day.’ Marking the day, the 14-party will organize two rallies—one in the city’s Mirpur-10 area on March 25 at 10am and another one in Jessore on March 30 at 3pm. – Staff Reporter
