Dhaka – Police is allegedly violating the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000 by not recording a case in connection with a rape in city’s suburb Savar yesterday.According to the local credible sources, Hamidul Baten, who is a teacher of the Sun Rise International School located at Sadhollapur village under Birulia Union Parishad of Savar was continuously raping his female college from 2015 to last week promising her to marry.
Despite the three years long relationship, Baten was trying to marry another girl recently and as a result, the victim complained to the guardians of the rapist as well as her family members and relatives.
Some local people tried to compromise the matter locally but as the accused is very influential, the accused and his family members is threatening the poor family of the victim.
Getting no other ways, the raped school teacher went to the Savar Model Police Station yesterday and submitted a written complain against the rapist.
But mysteriously Savar Police Station did not record the case till filing the report around 7:pm, rather they were pressuring the victim to reach a compromise with the accused, alleged the family of the victim.
Admitting the incident, Sub Inspector(SI) Tariqul Islam of Savar Police Station said, the victim came to the police and submitted a written complain.
About the allegation against police of pressuring the victim to compromise with the rapist, Inspector SM Kamruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Savar Police Station , denied the allegation.
We are investigating the issue and necessary steps would be taken immediately, he said.
Asked as sending a rape victim to the One Stop Crisis Center(OCC) of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for necessary medical tests of the victim, he said, the rape issue is very old and if necessary, we shall send her to the DMCH.
According to the Prevention of Oppression Against Women and Children Act 2000, whoever commits rape with a woman or a child, shall be punished with rigorous imprisonment for life and with fine.
Medical test of a woman or a child being raped shall be taken no sooner had the rape is committed. – Staff Reporter
