Dhaka – The BNP on Thursday called upon the government to find out way how to bring the party to participate in the next general elections.
“There will be no benefit by intimidating the BNP of cancellation of its registration. There will be no election in the country without a neutral government,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Speaking at a discussion meeting at Jatiya Press Club, he said the BNP is pro-election political party and it wants to take part in the elections.“The government has to create a path for that (elections). It will not be accepted that the ruling the Awami League will pull the wires from behind by staying in power and it will conduct the elections,” he said.
The BNP organized the meeting protesting the killing and enforced disappearance of party leaders and activists including disappearance of party leader Ilias Ali. Vice chairman Md Shajahan presided over the meeting.
The BNP leader reiterated that there will be no election except the BNP, the arch rival of the AL and that had boycotted the January 5, 2014 national elections.
He called upon the party leaders and activists to get united and build up vigorous movement in their respective areas.
Criticising the Prime Minister, he said the premier went to Bhutan to attend an international conference on autism by disabling the country’s people and its politics.
“She (premier) spoke on autism in Bhutan but she is not aware about the state of her own country. She made country’s politicians disabled by not allowing them to speak,” he added.
He further alleged that the government has been unleashing a gauntlet of repression on opposition leaders and activists after assuming power. Such severe repression is not found anywhere in the world, he said.
Mirza Alamgir termed the premier’s India visit also failure saying that if she has public support she would not have signed any agreements unless an agreement on Teesta water sharing is signed.
Describing the present government isolated one he alleged that the government is carrying out killings and enforced disappearance to cling to power.
He claimed that over five hundred BNP leaders and activists including Ilais Ali were enforced disappearance during the present government.
BNP leaders Habibur Rahman Habib, Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, Ataur Rahman Dhali and ABM Mosharraf Hossain, among others, also spoke on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
