Dhaka – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods and illegal drugs worth over Tk 68.78 crore from across the country, including the frontier areas, in the last month of June.The seized narcotic items included 8,020,723 Yaba tablets, 12,969 bottlers of foreign liquor, 17,092 bottles of Phensidyl, 595 kg hemp, 2.436 kg heroin, 112,105 injections and 1,226,610 other tablets, said sources at the BGB headquarters.The smuggled goods included 16,733 saris, 4,034 three-piece sets, 2,179-metre cloths, 34,021 cft timber and 1.176 kg gold.Besides, the paramilitary force arrested 176 people in connection with the seizure of the contraband items from June 1 to June 30, said Public Relations Officer of the BGB headquarters Mohsin Reza.It arrested 106 people for their attempts to cross the Bangladesh-India border illegally and handed them over to respective local police stations, he said. Mohsin said the BGB detained five Indian nationals for intruding into the Bangladesh territory with four of them being handed over to Indian Border Security Force while the rest to local police station.During the period, the paramilitary force prevented 19 Myanmar nationals from entering Bangladesh through Bangladesh-Myanmar borders.UNB news agency
