Rajshahi – After 30 hours of abduction the female student of Rajshahi University (RU) has been rescued from Dhaka, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) informed. Besides rescuing the missing student Shuva, her abductor and former husband Sohel Rana has also been arrested at Mohammadpur area of Dhaka by Mohammadpur Police station.
University Proctor Dr. Lufur Rahman confirmed this. Details of the incident will be disclosed on Sunday, said RMP spokesman Ifthekhair Alam.
Earlier, 12.00pm on the day the students of the university staged agitation as the authority failed to rescue the missing student.
They raised a five-point demand including security on campus, installing police check post at the female dpr,itories, cancellation of evening law in the campus, monitoring the disadvantages of the students, installation of closed circuit camera in the campus and giving permission to the guardian of the student to enter halls. Students formed a human chain in front of the university central library at 01.00pm.
Later, they met with the university Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. M Abdus Sobhan and submitted the demands.
At the very beginning of the day, agitating students were under lock and key and they failed to come out of the halls as university authority ordered to keep the gate4s of student-dormitories shut. Later, some BCL leaders and activists led by its Secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu forced open the hall gates and students were able to participate in the protest rally.
Bringing the allegation against 4 person including Shuvas’s ex-husband Sohel a case was filed with Potnitala Thana of Naogoan on Friday night.
Umme Shahi Ammana Shuva, a fourth-year Bangla student, daughter of Amzad Hossain hailing from Mohadebpur of Naogaon was abducted by her former husband, Shohel Rana, of Naogaon from the university campus around 8:30am on Friday.
The abductor forced her into a microbus in front of Taposhi Rabeya Hall when she went out of her dormitory to appear at the final examination at around 9:00am, said witnesses.
According to the family of the female student, she got married to Shohel in December last year, but they got divorced two months back.
Her father filed an abduction case against Shohel, his father, and four of his family members, Officer-in- Charge of Motihar Police Station Mehedi Hasan said.
Quoting police, the proctor said Shohel’s father was arrested in Naogaon. – RU Correspondent
