A roadside tea stall owner, who was stabbed during a clash between two groups of criminals in the city’s Dhanmondi area on Thursday evening, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Friday.The victim was identified as Mohan Miah, 26, son of Ahmad Ullah Bepari of Bijoynagar in Laxmipur district. He had been residing at a tin-shed room on the rooftop of a four-storey building in the area.
Police said two rival groups of criminals engaged in a clash near the tea stall of Mohan at Jigatala bus stand under Dhanmondi Police Station on Thursday late evening over establishing supremacy in the
area.
At one stage, one of the goons stabbed Mohan in the nape with a sharp weapon and fled the scene leaving him in a pool of blood.
Mohan was rushed to the DMCH in a critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries at about 4am on Friday.
Victim’s wife Khadiza Begum said that her husband had no enmity with anyone. “We don’t know why the gangster stabbed my husband,” she said.
The body was kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy. – UNB
