Rajshahi – Students and shop owners at Rajshahi University (RU) met in a clash centring on the eviction of illegal establishment on the campus on Wednesday.Police have arrested one shopkeeper and his elder brother following the incident. The detainees were identified as shopkeeper Nijam Uddin Alam and Muna elder brother of the shopkeeper.
Witness said RU proctorial body was conducting an operation of evicting illegal establishment on the campus. A shopkeeper engaged himself in alteration with the proctorial body. At one stage, some students interrupted the shopkeeper while those two detainees engaged in a clash with the students.
RU proctor Latfor Rahman said, we went to abolish illegal establishment while a shopkeeper along with his brother locked into an altercation with us. Later they were handed over to police.
Acting Officer in charge (OC) of Matihar police station Mehedi Hasan said Police detained two with the assistance of RU proctor and proper steps will be taken after investigating the matter. – RU Correspondent
