Rajshahi – The World Philosophy Day was observed at Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday with the theme ‘mutual sympathy to overcome the crisis of civilization’ amid festivity and fanfare on campus.
Over three hundred teachers and students of the RU philosophy department brought out a colourful rally at 10 am in front of the department, marking the day.Later, a discussion program was held at the senate building where RU vice chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan and pro-vice chancellor Professor Ananda Kumar Saha addressed the program as chief and special guests, with the department chair Professor Asaduzzaman in chair.
RU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Abdus Sobhan and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ananda Kumar Shaha were present as the chief guest and the special guest, respectively.
Among others, Emeritus Professor Dr Arun Kumar Bosak, and noted writer Professor Dr Hasan Azizul Huq were attended as honorable guests. Besides, department Professors Md Akthar Ali, SM Abu Bakar, Jahangir Alam, associate Professors Altaf Hossain, Ariful Islam, Md Motasim Billah, Md Mazibur Rahman, Sharmin Hamid, Sandhy Mallik, Ekram Hossain, Zahidul Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun, were present at the discussion seminar.
Professor Dr Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, former chairman of Dhaka University Bangla Department delivered the keynote paper titled ‘Crisis of civilization and way of progressive” in the function while Professor Dr Nilufar Ahmed, treasurer of Philosophy Department Alumni Association gave the welcome speech.
Addressing the seminar, the speakers said philosophical thought is an inescapable part of human existence. Philosophy has had enormous influence on people’s everyday’s lives. By studying philosophy, people can clarify what they believe, and they can be stimulated to think about ultimate questions.
They also urged to the students to organize various types of activities–philosophical dialogues, debates, conferences, workshops, cultural events and presentations around the general theme of the Day, for enduring value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual. – RU Correspondent
