Dhaka, 07 Jan – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Sunday granted anticipatory bail to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Advocate Zainul Abedin and Secretary Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon in a vandalism case.The bail will continue for six months or until police submit the investigation report of the case.
A High Court bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Chowdhury and Justice Md Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order hearing a bail petition filed by Zainul Abedin and Mahbubuddin Khokon.
Police filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on January 3 on the charge of vandalising vehicles and obstructing police from discharging duties during an agitation enforced by BNP leaders and activists centring BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s appearance before a court at Bakshibazar area in the city.
Zainul Abedin and Khokon, also a vice-chairman and joint secretary general of BNP respectively, were present at the courtroom during the hearing on Sunday. – Special Correspondent
