PM asks govt officials to be more pro-people

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday asked the government officials and employees to be more pro-people and engage themselves in overall development of the country.“You’ll have to be pro-people and have the attitude of sacrifice for the welfare of the nation,” she said.
The Prime Minister was delivering her speech at the Iftar Mehfil and Annual Dinner of Bangladesh Administrative Service Association (BASA) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).
She said government officials and employees should play a leading role in continuation of the development activities, and asked the public servants to be more active for implementing the ‘Vision 2021′.
Sheikh said that the success of the government mostly depends on the BASA members.
PM’ Adviser HT Imam, Cabinet Secretary Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, BASA president Abu Alam Shahid Khan, BASA secretary general AN Shamsuddin Azad Chowdhury spoke at the programme.
Sheikh Hasina called upon the officials of the administration to work with utmost efficiency and the attitude of sacrifice in reaching public services to the doorsteps of people to bring smile to their faces.
In this regard, she sought their cooperation in implementation of the government programmes undertaken for the development of the country.
Sheikh Hasina said officials of the administration will have to be attentive to serving people upholding the spirit of the glorious history and the spirit of the country’s independence.
In most cases, the implementation of the government decisions depends on the performance and efficiency of the field level officers of the administration, she said.
In this connection, the Prime Minister directed them to be more attentive to fulfilling the aspirations of people through their works and dedication.
She said the country has got its independence crossing many hurdles from the colonial rule to autocratic regime in different forms, including martial law and military backed regime.
Laying emphasis on the continuity of democratic system, Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to develop the country through establishing the rule of law and people.
In this regard, Hasina mentioned that her government has been advancing the country with specific work plan saying the aim is to ensure sustainable development and progress in various sectors, including education, health, communication and other infrastructures.
Describing the terrifying situation that was established during undemocratic regime, the Prime Minister said the people could not see the desired development at that time.
After assuming office this time, she said, her government has implemented various programmes to advance the country towards prosperity and development.
In this regard, she said, electricity generation ahs been increased to 6675 MW from 3200 MW of 2009, while the gas and water crises have got mitigated to a great extent.
She also elaborated her government’s achievements in attaining socioeconomic development of the country through alleviating poverty and establishing self sufficiency in food production.
Hasina urged all members of the administration to work with dedication in building a prosperous, developed Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. – UNB
