Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said there could be no confusion about the next general election as it will be held in time as per the constitution.“The government has no scope to be there in power after October 25. So, why won’t we go to the polls? There’s no alternative to election, and it’ll be held in due time as per the constitution,” he said.
The minister came up with the remarks while talking to reporters at Feni Circuit House.
He also rejected the opposition leader’s notion that the government is suffering from public phobia, saying they are worried about the opposition’s violence in the name of movement instead of public wraths.
At an iftar party on Thursday, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia said the government is suffering from public phobia as it could not do anything good for people in its last four-and-a-half-year rule.
Quader claimed that the defeat of the ruling party in the city polls is not any political thrash. “Those who have political commitment they hardly care about loss and win.”
He said the opposition is in an illusion that they are going to power following their wins in city corporation polls ahead of the national election.
“Still, four months are left for the election. The people of our country change their mind frequently. So, the time will say who will assume office,” he added.
Replying to a question about the arrest ruling party MP Golam Maula Rony for allegedly assaulting two journalists, the minister said the government did not interfere in the matter. “The court and the administration have taken action against him and the law will take its own course.”
On Thursday, Rony was sent to jail a day after his arrest in the capital for beating up two journalists of Independent Television. – UNB
