Panchanari Akkhyan is one of the popular theater productions of Dhaka Theatre. Written by Harunur Rashid and directed by Shahiduzzaman Selim, the production has successfully staged its 50th show in the country last month.
Now this production, which is a monodrama featured by one of the most prominent names in the country’s acting world, Rosy Selim, is going to Australia once again. The monodrama is going to be staged in Melbourne, Australia on March 30. This is going to be the third show of the play across the border. Previously, the play was staged for two times in the same country.With this monodrama, Rosy Selim has been captivating audiences with her powerful acting over the years. She expressed her gratitude to the audience by saying, “Bangladeshi immigrants living in Australia loved the play so much that we are taking the story of five women to that country for the third time.
For an artiste, I am really proud and grateful to the audience who show their keen interest to enjoy theater. This kind of inspiration drives artistes like me to do better.” Panchanari Akhyan narrates the agony, oppression and struggle that a woman has to endure in the male dominated Bangladeshi society.
In the play, Rosy Selim plays five imaginary characters from different strata of the society including the ghost of a rural girl, an actress who plays the role of extras in mainstream movies, a Hindu housewife, a divorced girl from Jamalpur and a wealthy woman.
The play aims to portray that no matter what a woman does or is in the society, she nevertheless has to face certain challenges for just being a woman in the patriarchal society.
