Forest robbers kidnapped four shrimp enclosure owners for ransom from
Golakhali area of Shyamnagar upazila of the district early Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Debabrata Mal, Kartik Gayen, Pranab
Bishwas and Jitrendra Mal, hailing from Kalinchi village of the
upazila.
Bishwajit Mal, staff of one of the shrimp farms, said a gang of armed
forest robbers, numbering 15/20, stormed into the shrimp enclosures of
Debabrata Mal, Kartik Gayen, Pranab Bishwas and Jitrendra Mal at about
1.00am and took away them at gunpoint.
Before leaving, the robbers asked the staffs of the enclosures to get
the owners released by paying Tk10 lakh ransom.
The robbers threatened to kill the victims for non-compliance.
Officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar Police Station Aslam Khan said he
heard the news of kidnapping the four shrimp farmers but he did not
get any written complaint in this regard. -UNB, Satkhira
