Dhaka, April 10 – A five-member probe committee headed by Prof Dr Nasrin Ahmad, pro-VC of Dhaka University, has been formed to investigate into the attack on the residence of Dhaka University Vice-chancellor.The probe committee has been asked to submit its report within two weeks by estimating the cost of the attack incident and identifying the criminals those involved in the attack on Monday.
A syndicate meeting of Dhaka University on Tuesday formed the probe committee at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate building. DU VC Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman chaired the meeting.
Amid demonstrations in Shahbagh and adjacent areas on Monday seeking reform of the quota system, some unknown attackers entered the VC’s residence breaking its main gate and ransacked several rooms and furniture. The attackers also set fire to two vehicles parked inside the VC’s residence.
Meanwhile, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader yesterday visited the incident place and warned of taking stern action against those who were involved in the attack on VC’s residence.
“The Monday’s attack was preplanned. Investigation is on…None will be spared who were involved in the attack,” Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister told the reporters after the visiting the incident place.
He said the attack on VC’s residence is tantamount to the brutal attack of Pakistani occupation forces as they did in the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
Talking to the reporters at his secretariat office Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has hinted that the activists of certain political parties were suspected to the vandalized the residence of vice chancellor of Dhaka University at midnight on Sunday. – Staff Reporter
