Quota reform demo: JU student forced out of hall

Savar (Dhaka), April 30 – A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit, on Sunday allegedly drove a student out of a university dormitory for his involvement in quota reform demo.The victim was identified as Ziaul Haque, a Masters’ level student of drama and Dramatics department, who is also the resident of Shaheed Rafiq-Jabbar Hall. Ziaul said: “Avishek on Sunday started verbally offending me as I participated in anti-quota protest. At one stage after protest, he physically assaulted and forced me to leave the dormitory”.
Earlier he threatened me to leave the hall several times, he added. In the meantime, his cell phone was snatched by the fellows of the accused, the victim reported.
Avishek Mandal –the accused— is an organising secretary of JU BCL unit who is also the 41st batch student of Gov’t and politics department.
Contacted, Avishek said: “Zia was involved in the politics of Jatiyatabadi Chhtra Dal (JCD). His activities might unrest the campus”. He rejected the allegation of mobile snatching.
Asst. Prof Sikder Md Zulkernine, the JU proctor, said: “The incident is an internal matter of the dormitory, though I’ll go through the development”. – JU Correspondent
