One held for killing two ethnic girls in Chattogram

Dhaka – Police arrested a man from Mahdebpur area in Sitakunda sadar upazila early Saturday in connection with the murders of two teenage girls of ethnic minority whose hanging bodies were recovered on Friday night.The detainee, Abul Hossain, 24, confessed his involvement in the murders of 16-year-old Sukhlati Tripuraand 13-year-old Chhobi Rani Tripura of Jangal Mahadevpur village, police said.

Earlier on Friday night, the bodies of two teenage Tripura girls were found hanging in a house in the hilly village.

Officer-in-charge of Sitakunda Police Station Mozammel Haque said Abul had been stalking Sukhlati and planned to kill her after she refused his romantic advances.

Abul and his accomplices first killed Sukhlati as her house was empty and later killed Chhobi as she witnesses the crime, the OC said.
Later, they hanged the bodies of two girls after pouring poison in their mouth in a bid to show the murders as suicide, he said.

Sukhlati’s father alleged that Abul had previously threatened to kill Sukhlati after being criticized in a village arbitrator over the stalking and had been putting pressure on him to accept Abul for Sukhlati.

On Friday, Suklati’s parents went to the hill leaving Sukhlati and her friend Chhobi in the house while the miscreants killed the duo.
Being informed by locals, police recovered the bodies from a house in Tripura Para around 8 pm and sent those to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.UNB
