Dhaka – A court here on Wednesday sentenced a young man to death for killing his step daughter after rape in Sharankhola upazila in 2017 in Bagherhat .The condemned convict is Al-Amin Hawalader, 36, son of Faizul Haque of Matherpar village in the upazila. He was also fined Tk 1 lakh.
According to the prosecution, Putul Begum who had a nine-year-old girl Maya from her previous marriage married Al-Amin in 2016.
On December 20, 2016, Al-Amin called Putul asking her to send the girl to him to bring a chicken from the market. However, the girl did not return home and went missing.
Police arrested Al-Amin on suspicion when he confessed to killing the girl after rape.
Later, police recovered the body of the girl from a paddy field on December 21.
Victim’s grandfather Quamrul Hasan Dulal filed a case against Al-Amin over the murder.
After examining the records and 13 witnesses, Bagerhat 1st additional district and session’s court judge Md Hafizur Rahman handed down the verdict.UNB
