Dhaka, Aug 5 – The ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader Sunday alleged that BNP-Jamaat nexus is conspiring to cause stepping down of the Sheikh Hasina government by riding on the ongoing student’s movement for safe road and justice for the death of two of their fellows in a road accident on 29 July. “It has already proved through the Saturday and Sunday’s attacks on the AL Dhanmondi office that BNP-Jamaat men were involved in the attack,” he said this while addressing a news conference at the AL president Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed them to remain alert and have patience so that BNP-Jamaat nexus is not able to fish in the troubled water.
Earlier, talking to the journalists at a programme in the city’s Banani, AL general secretary has defended the assault carried out on general university students saying it was the students who attacked first on the leaders and activists of the ruling party.
“Will we kiss them if they advance towards AL party office?” he asked.
Claiming that the countrymen feel very angry and bored due to the wrongdoing of a vested political quarter, Quader called upon all to build a resistance against the evil force without putting pressure on the children. “We will not put pressure on the children.”
The Awami League leader reiterated his call to the agitated students to return to home and said all of the demands raised by the protesters have already been accepted.
Quader said peace will not be persisted in the country as long as BNP-Jamaat will survive in the country as a political party. He also vowed to resist the BNP-Jamaat evil forces for the welfare of the country.
Meanwhile, several thousand students, including over a thousand of Dhaka University (DU), gathered at the Science Lab intersection in the capital around 11:00 am and marched towards Jhigatola demanding an answer to Saturday’s attack on students chanting the slogan “We Want Justice”. – Staff Reporter
