A local journalist was injured as activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir launched an attack on him at Maniknagar village in Kolaroa upazila on Tuesday.The victim was identified as Abdur Rahman, the upazila correspondent of the daily Sangbad.Abdur Rahman came under the attack allegedly because he covered a news story against the Jamaat-Shibir men saying that they had snatched a detained Jamaat leader, Altaf Hossain, from police custody by breaking the lockup of Saraskathi police camp on Sunday.On Tuesday afternoon, a group of Jamaat-Shibir activists swooped on the Maniknagar village house of Abdur Rahman and beat him up with iron rods indiscriminately, leaving him injured.They also vandalised the house and terrorised local people by blasting several crude bombs.On information, police rescued Rahman and got him admitted to Kolaroa Upazila Health Complex.Later, police arrested 10 activists of Jamaat-Shibir, a few among them females, from different areas on Tuesday night.Alamgir Mollah, Abdul Goni, Rabeya, Insan, Tulu and Gazi were among the arrestees.On August 18, police detained a union-level Jammat leader, Altaf Hossain, and later Jamaat-Shibir men snatched him from police custody launching an attack on Saraskathi police camp in the upazila. -UNB, Satkhira
