Withdrawal of another ‘poloitical’ 72 cases suggested

The national committee set up to review cases filed on ‘political considerations’ has recommended withdrawal of 72 cases.
This includes several cases of murder. The recommendations were put forward before the Home Ministry by the committee during its meeting on Thursday.
“A total of 277 cases were reviewed in the meeting. It recommended withdrawal of 72 ,” State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam, who heads the committee, told reporters after the meeting.
He said those cases include several for murder and added, “We’ve not made any recommendation for any drug-related case,”
Stating that there were no more appeals to withdraw the cases filed on “political considerations”, the Minister said, “I think there will be no need to hold any more meeting for this purpose.”
Prior to this, thirty more meetings of the committee were held during the tenure of the incumbent government. In those meetings, the committee ordered for either withdrawal or partial withdrawal of 101 cases, out of the 11,113 placed before it for review.
The two cases against ruling party’s Comilla MP Subid Ali Bhuiyan and Tangail MP Amanur Rahman Khan were among the 72 cases the committee has recommended for withdrawal on political considerations.
Notably hundreds of cases filed against leaders and workers of the Awami League during the 24-year rule of the last caretaker government have been withdrawn over the past fours years on this ground.
