Speculations have spread that the government might opt to dissolve Parliament in next January and hold elections three months later in April. Some legal experts have said that this would not be ethically right to do this without amending the Constitution which stands for election holding of parliamentary elections within three months before the dissolution of Parliament in January.
banglanews24.com reported, Election Commissioner M Shahnewaz said on Sunday that the national election would be held within January 24 of next year.
He was talking to journalists at election commission secretariat in Sher-e-bangla Nagar. M Shahnewaz said: “If political parties want, EC can take initiatives for of negotiations for the sake of fair election.”
In reply to a query, he said, “Possible date of election is not fixed yet, but the election will be held within October 27, 2013 to January 24 of 2014.”
That’s actually the position set in the Constitution 15th Amendment passed by the present government. Sources say policymakers in the AL believe they would get time to campaign and improve their standing in public rating as against the opposition if they take some extra time before going for the election.
