BNP for cultural movement to protect democracy

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said a cultural movement is needed to be launched to protect the country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy.   “The country’s independence, sovereignty and democracy are now at stake. We’ve to encourage people through songs and drama to take party in the movement to protect the country,” he said.   Fakhrul was addressing a meeting of representatives of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) at Paltan Community Centre to chalk out cultural programmes for the movement demanding restoration of the caretaker government.   The BNP spokesman alleged that a vested quarter is conspiring to weaken the country’s culture. “An aggression of alien culture has started weakening our own culture. People have started forgetting our culture. A vested quarter is doing this in a planned way.”   Mentioning that culture is the only medium to reach people, he said culture can change a nation. “So, we don’t have any scope for seating ideals, we must be out there on the field with our own culture to unite people against this fascist regime.”   BNP cultural affairs secretary Gazi Mazharul Anwar, Jasas vice present Ashrafuddin Ujjal, general secretary Monir Khan, among others, spoke at the meeting held with Jasas president MA Malek in the chair. -UNB
