Juba League leader gets 6 months for possessing yaba

A mobile court here on Wednesday sentenced a local leader of Jubo League (JL) to six
months’ imprisonment after he was arrested with Yaba tablets at Bilashpur in the city.
The convict was identified as Merajul Bari Meraj, president of the Gazipur municipality
unit of the ruling Awami League.
The court also fined him Tk500 in default, to suffer seven days more in jail.
Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman, inspector (Gazipur circle) of the Narcotics Control
Department, said the department officials in a joint drive with members of Rapid Action
Battalion-10 Shimultoli camp arrested Meraj in possession of 10 pieces of Yaba tablet at
around 2.00pm on Wednesday.
Later, the arrestee was produced before a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate ANM
Badruddoza who handed down the verdict. -UNB, Gazipur
